Yes, I’m going back out on
the road again, this time with my son, Ben, in a 320 mile ride down the California Coast
from Eureka to San Francisco. We’ll be part of about 100 riders in Climate
Ride, which raises money for non-profits working on environmental causes, clean
energy and/or bike advocacy. In our case, Ben and I have each designated that
all monies we raise go to the charity for which I'm the Board Chair: I Challenge Myself.
The ride starts on May 18th and goes for 5 days, but why wait until then to start blogging? For those of you who remember my bike blog about riding across America this past summer, my intention is to continue the tradition with daily posts from the West coast.
If you don't already know it, I Challenge Myself helps public high school students in the Bronx, Washington Heights and Harlem develop confidence and self-esteem, as well as leadership and workplace skills, through endurance cycling training and rides, culminating in a Century (i.e., 100 mile) Bike Ride each Spring. It's a great organization, with an eight-year track record, and I hope you will consider supporting it indirectly by supporting me. You can do so by going directly to my Climate Ride fundraising page.
I know it's not December yet, but why not get a jump on your 2013 charitable giving with a fully tax-deductible contribution today? Then you can read the rest of my blogs completely guilt-free! (Or eliminate any nagging guilt if you followed my cross-country blog without donating....)
